Formentera is the second smallest inhabited island of the Balearic Islands. Having no airport means the island can only be reached by ferry. The numerous, regular ferries from Ibiza (located 9km
North) can take you to Formentera within half an hour. The smaller ferries take around 45 minues, costing 19 Euro for a return trip.
When we decided to take a day trip from Ibiza to Formentera, the weather was still quite beautiful, but as we arrived in our rental car to Platja de Cala Sauna, the weather increasingly deteriorated and unfortunately, remained like this for the rest of the day.
You can explore the island in either a scooter or a car. If you have the time you can also opt to cycle around the island on a bicycle.
Formentera has magnificent beaches and gorgeous clear water, reminiscent of the Caribbean.
Although we were unlucky with the weather, we would always recommend a day trip to Formentera. Formentera beaches offer the cleanest water in the Balearics and on the south coast, 6km away, is Migjorn, the longest natural beach of the island.
